The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was launched in 2010 with a mission-critical objective: to bridge the gap between academia and industry - often referred to as the ‘valley of death’. It was a major challenge, but one that had to be tackled in order to protect the future of Great British manufacturing.
Representing one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing, the MTC grew fast - from 16 industrial members, 44 staff, and just a few key pieces of equipment in one workshop at the time of launch, to 100 members, a talented team of over 800 employees, and three world-class training centres a decade later.
In 2015, the Lloyds Bank Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) was opened in Ansty Business Park, Coventry. Home to MTC Training, the AMTC’s state-of-the-art facilities have been designed to create a new generation of engineers and technicians, helping the UK realise its potential in advanced manufacturing.
Since then, many young engineers have completed apprenticeship programmes through MTC Training, with Level 2, 3, and 4 programmes led by highly experienced trainers to develop the skills needed to deliver the technologies of the future in the high-value manufacturing sector.
The AMTC houses a wide range of machine tools and other technologies, with profit generated from MTC Events reinvested into MTC Training’s apprenticeship programmes every year. The AMTC is also home to many of MTC Events’ spaces for hire, including the 247-seater auditorium, dedicated exhibition space, restaurant, mezzanine, and meeting rooms.
In 2019, MTC extended its national reach with the opening of MTC Liverpool, a multi-million-pound technology facility located within the heart of the city’s Knowledge Quarter. Home to MTC’s Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship, MTC Liverpool also expands MTC Events’ offering with flexible event spaces available to hire.
